This “chapel in the valley” is situated at
the foot of the Brecon Beacons. This vibrant little chapel is very much the
focal point for the farming community, although amongst its members it also has
University lecturers, an aeronautical engineer and a Consultant Psychiatrist and
other white collar workers.
In 2007, in preparation for a pastorate service, a considerable amount of work
was done to the chapel which seemed to rejuvenate its life. One of the results
of this is the reintroduction of the annual sports day which draws the whole of
the community together.
At the moment we have ten members but are often up to twenty people at our
Sunday services. Our Harvest and Christmas services are always well attended and
we have hosted a very moving Plygain service (traditional, Welsh carol service)
which was attended by over a hundred people.
Nearly everyone living in the valley attends a service in the chapel on one or
more occasions during the year. The future at Sardis, Cwm Camlais looks very
promising.
Services are held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month at 4.30 pm and we
use “Rejoice and Sing” as our main hymnbook. The chapel is not part of the URC
but instead is part of the Undeb Yr Annibybwyr, reflecting the chapel‟s history,
although our services are normally in English.
